Distek is seeking an Applications Scientist to help grow and support our BIOne bioprocessing product line. In this hands-on role, you’ll combine application development, training, and customer engagement to strengthen both customer outcomes and sales success.
Responsibilities
Technical Application Support
- Train customers on use of the BIOne product line
- Develop and execute application studies per the direction of product line management
- Establish customer relationships and drive collaboration projects
- Author procedures in support of product line
- Stay current on trends in the marketplace to ensure product’s competitive position
- Interface with customers, engineering, customer service, marketing, production, and sales to help determine direction of product
- Assist with the generation of required sales collateral and service support material
- Provide feedback to all Distek departments for continuous improvement in the level of service and instrument performance
- Identify recurring problems and bring them to the attention of the BIOne Service Manager
- Assist Bioprocessing Service Manager in product validations and services as needed
Sales
- Develop sales and marketing strategies that would increase sales output in the Northeast, Mid-Atlantic, and Southeast territories
- Collaborate with Sales to generate new sales opportunities to fuel growth of the business, including new lead generation and lead nurturing
- Respond to customer product inquiries
- Lead technical sales calls, schedule and present demonstrations, and lead product evaluations at customer sites
- Promote and perform technical application training services with new and existing customers
- Work with product line management and administration to develop customer quotations
- Assist in closing BIOne orders
- Follow-up with customers to ensure satisfaction with all aspects of purchase
- Actively participate in trade shows
Administration
- Draft quotations
- Work with regional Sales Manager to prepare weekly Call Reports and monthly Sales Forecasts
- Update computerized customer database
- Accurately complete and submit expense statements with supporting documents in a timely manner
Perform responsibilities in adherence to ISO standards
Requirements
- Life Science B.S. Degree (Biology, Cell Biology, Biochemistry, Engineering) or the equivalent experience
- Ability and willingness to travel at least 50-75% throughout the United States and Internationally
- Tech transfer and scale-up experience preferred
- Experience making presentations to customers and training others
- 3-5 years upstream bioreactor experience (mammalian/insect cell culture or fermentation)
- High self-motivation, the ability to work independently thereby requiring minimal supervision
- Ability to successfully prioritize and handle multiple tasks simultaneously
- Ability to handle interruptions and adjust to quick changes in priorities
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office – Word, Excel, Outlook
- Excellent interpersonal, organizational; oral and written communication skills
- Proven ability to work well in a team environment
- Prior sales experience preferred
